I grew up in Manchester and lived in Oxfordshire and France before moving to York.
I developed my love of colour and texture from observing the striking colours found in nature and the natural textures in architecture and fabrics. I enjoy the freedom and creativity of painting as a contrast to my day job as an academic and it gives me a space to express the observations I make about our environments and us as humans.
I work using oils, acrylics, pastels and photography. In my paintings I am often inspired my the natural world, using colour and texture to convey what I see and feel. I particularly enjoy exploring how to create different textures. My street photography captures the beauty and strangeness of human life.
